Buying A Gift For A New Mum

I remember when friends or family were having a baby and I wanted to get them something to show that I cared, to support them. I would have a budget in mind of what I wanted to / was able to spend, $50- $100. I would click around on the internet to see what came up when I googled 'gifts for new parents' or 'newborn gifts' (I know now that all of those lists are sponsored ads 😇). I would find something that suited the budget, looked cute, would arrive in time and make the purchase. It wasn't until years later, when I had a baby myself, I realised that:
  1. Most of the things on those lists actually aren't that helpful
  2. There are MANY better ways to be spending $100 to support new parents
  3. I wish I could go back and make everyone a lasagne for their freezer
By the time I had a baby and the realisation of useful vs cute gifts, I didn't have the time to make and deliver the food I knew they needed - this slowly set me on the path of creating The Whole Bowl Co. with Daisy. I couldn't find the solution that I needed, the gift that these new parents REALLY needed - not just meals delivered but meals created to nutritionally support them through the period of healing and sleep deprivation, delivered in a beautifully designed box with a thoughtful gift card and low impact packaging. There was a gap, and we have tried our best to fill it.

So, whether you're a friend, family member, colleague or boss - remember that instead of popping across to the shop to waste $100 on something that won't be used, order some meals. Don't be worried about the timing of a postpartum gift of meals because it's something that will be appreciated (to the point of tears) 1 week, 1 month, 1 year into the parenthood journey.
